Finally the Google G1 phone is out with T-Mobile. It is US$179 but I am sure it is locked down for T-Mobile (yeah right) and will wait for about 10 minutes before it is also jailbroken. Now that the Android OS that makes this phone run is fully open sourced, there really is not significant reason for me not to acquire it. Is there?
As a SingTel customers, I really hope they will jump on this ASAP. iPhone is so yesterday!

The G1 is $179 with a 2 year contract. No “jailbreak” needed, as T-Mobile has stated they will unlock after 90 days.
Without a contract, the G1 is $399.

Oh? No jailbreak needed? I thought the press conference when it was announced had the T-Mobile spokesperson say that it was blocked. Would the US$399 version take in any SIM?

I think you can request some sort of code from T-Mobile to unlock it. If you are getting one, let me know because I am interested 🙂

I am told that after 90 days of launch, they will make have it unlocked. Let’s see.
