Last week’s Internet unplugging by the Burmese junta is an important lesson in the need to set up a store-forward Internet access scheme. This is not unlike the UUCP mapping project of years ago. Perhaps what we need is to revive a specific freedom.uucp domain that will allow for connections via an analogue telephone line (whether over the cellular or landline links) to a node that will be the gateway in and out of a specific place (city, town, country).
