There are moves afoot in Malaysia that needs to be addressed in ways that would effectively be manifesting and rolling out a Software Bill of Rights. This is not a new idea – been around for a long time but perhaps the time is right to run with it.

The earliest I can find is Cem Kaner’s manifesto. I think as the open source movement gains further traction and an understanding at the highest levels of government, they will have to essentially want a Bill of Rights for software.

I have said on many occasions that access to software should be a basic human right recognized by the United Nations. It is only with that ultimate statement of an obvious truth, that we can finally see an elimination of corporate greed as manifested by the usual suspects.
