This article paints a very sad picture of how a minority of people would want to manipulate a majority with the minorities point of view. Why does this happen? What is it about the corrupting influence of power that it is important that truths be manipulated to suite political agendas? I am reminded of the line in the movie “A Few Good Men” – “I want the truth.” “You can’t handle the truth.” Why is it that there are people who think they are better able to handle “truth” than others? If there is one simple reason why there is so much abuse and injustice in the world, the reason is not too far from this self-imposed sense of “I know better than you”.
There clearly is no place in a true democracy for this type of a stance. Alas, how many of us have the privilege to live in such a democracy? Certainly, the one I live under is not anything like that. Under the pretext of “we could destroy everything we have built up over the years” mantra, critical discussions and information is held back or FUDded into “non-mainstream” channels. The so-called “mainstream” is, sadly, a travesty of intellectual and informed discussion.
