Monoculture and the eventual open sourcing of Microsoft

The authors of this article are doing the right thing in putting an academic framework around the notion of how MS will survive against Linux. I hope the mention that they make about SCO being a Swiss company is not representative of their competency :-)!

My sense is that it will take atleast 10 years for Linux to totally overwhelm Microsoft, by which time, MS would not be recognizable as the company is today. It would be a provider of content and little of it’s closed source software being used by anyone (because it has become open sourced).
