A Kaspersky analyst suggests that there is now a concept macro virus for StarOffice/OpenOffice. While I think this is an inevitable development, there really is no need to panic. What we need is to ensure that macros that are used are run in a sandbox. The Java community recently observed the tenth JavaOne and in the decade of growth and use, the fact that we have *yet* to see a Java virus is testimony to the security model of using sandboxes. OO.o and SO can benefit fro this model – and so would the MS Office suite.
