Not everything is being censored (yet).

A week ago, I wrote about how history is being deleted, then forgotten and then lied about by Deepseek.com.

Interestingly, there is another generative AI chat solution, also from China, called Qwen2.5-Plus (chat.qwenlm.ai) that seems to be not entirely constrained by the censorship and rewriting of history as displayed by Deepseek.

Here’s some screenshots of the chat I had. The first one asked “happy 4th j u n e 19 89”, the 2nd “isn’t the ccp censoring history?” and the third “who is winnie?”. It answered and did not try to avoid.

That’s a good start.

In Red Team testing of foundational models, we must include in the array of tests, questions like what I’ve asked (for a start) and ensure that the system is not censoring.

Naturally, the system can be gamed, so the tests have to also evolve.

The model I used was the one that was offered via their system. I’ll be testing the same model (assuming I can download it) on my local system next.
